Prayer for Strength and Faith to Endure

There is a kind of tired that sleep cannot fix. It is the weariness that settles in when your faith feels thinner than it used to be, when prayers that once rose with certainty now come out as questions. Maybe you still believe, but believing has become harder work than it used to be. The diagnosis, the prodigal child, the prayer that has gone unanswered for years, the waiting that stretches on and on. These things do not always destroy faith, but they can drain it, until you find yourself running on fumes.

Here is what I want you to hear today: faith and strength are not two separate things. They feed each other. A small faith, honestly held, can carry a very heavy burden. And strength, the kind that endures, is often nothing more dramatic than faith refusing to quit on an ordinary Tuesday.

You do not need a mountain-moving faith this morning. The mustard seed kind is enough, because it was never about the size of your faith. It was always about the size of your God.

So let us pray for both at once: strength to keep going, and faith to keep believing.

A Prayer for Strength and Faith

Heavenly Father,

I come to You today with a faith that feels smaller than I wish it were. Some days I believe with my whole heart. Other days I am holding on with my fingertips. You know both of those days, Lord, and You have never once turned me away on either one.

Your Word says that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Right now I cannot see the answer. I cannot see the way through. So I am choosing to trust what I cannot yet see, because I know the One in whom I am trusting.

Strengthen my faith, Lord. When doubt whispers that You have forgotten me, let Your promises be louder. When my heart wants to give up, anchor it in Your faithfulness. Remind me of every time You carried me before, so I can believe You will carry me now.

Give me strength to endure what I cannot change, faith to wait for what I cannot see, and the quiet courage to take the next step even while I am trembling.

I place my small faith in Your strong hands. Hold me, Lord, when I cannot hold on.

In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.

How to Pray for Strength and Faith When Yours Is Running Low

When faith feels fragile, we tend to do one of two things: fake it, or walk away from prayer altogether. Neither one helps. Here is a gentler path back:

1. Admit exactly where you are. God is not shocked by your doubt. The psalmists filled whole chapters with questions, and God kept every one of them in His book. Tell Him the truth: “Lord, my faith feels weak today.” Honesty is not the opposite of faith. It is often the doorway back to it.

2. Pray the shortest honest prayer in the Bible. A desperate father once cried to Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief” (Mark 9:24). Seven words, and Jesus answered him on the spot. When your faith is small, you do not need a long prayer. You need an honest one.

3. Remember God’s track record in your own life. Doubt shrinks when memory grows. Write down three times God has carried you before, and keep the list where you pray. Looking back at His faithfulness is one of the fastest ways to strengthen your faith for whatever lies ahead.

4. Let Scripture do the heavy lifting. On days when you cannot find your own words of faith, borrow God’s. Read Hebrews chapter 11 slowly, the great gallery of ordinary people who believed. Their stories remind you that faith was never about feeling certain. It was about holding on.

5. Endure one day at a time. Faith does not have to be heroic to be real. The promise of Isaiah 41:10 is not that you will never waver, but that God will strengthen, help, and uphold you while you do. Take today’s step. Leave tomorrow’s faith for tomorrow’s grace.

Short Prayers for Different Moments

Some days you need the long prayer above. Other days you need a lifeline you can pray in ten seconds. Keep these close:

For when doubt whispers: Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief. When I cannot see Your hand, help me trust Your heart. Amen.

For the weary believer: Father, my faith feels thin today. Strengthen what remains. Remind me You are holding me even when I cannot feel it. Amen.

For perseverance in trials: Lord, I do not know how long this road is, but I know You walk it with me. Give me faith for today and strength for the next step. Amen.

You can pray these word for word or use them as a starting point. God is not checking your wording. He is listening for your heart.

Bible Verses for Strength

Hebrews 11:1

Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith is not wishful thinking. It is a substance, something solid you can stand on when everything around you feels shaky.

Joshua 1:9

Joshua 1:9 – “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

This is a command, not a suggestion, and it comes with a promise: His presence goes with you into whatever you are facing.

Isaiah 41:10

Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

Three promises in one verse: He will strengthen you, He will help you, and He will hold you up. That is faith with somewhere firm to stand.

A Note From Hannah

There was a season in my life when I stopped praying out loud. Not because I stopped believing, exactly, but because belief had gotten so quiet I was embarrassed by it. I would sit in church and wonder if everyone else’s faith was as thin as mine felt, and whether God could hear a whisper that small.

What brought me back was not a dramatic answer or a sudden surge of certainty. It was a Tuesday morning, my journal, and one honest sentence: “Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief.” I wrote it, I prayed it, and I kept praying it for weeks. Slowly, like a muscle waking up, my faith grew stronger.

Here is what that season taught me: faith does not have to be loud to be real. God does not need you to arrive with certainty. He only asks you to arrive. A trembling faith in a strong God will carry you further than a strong faith in yourself ever could.

So if your faith feels small today, you are not failing. You are human. Bring what you have. He will do the rest.

Questions About Praying for Strength and Faith

Then pray weak. God does not measure the size of your faith before He listens. The father in Mark 9 had a faith mixed with doubt, and Jesus still answered him. Start with “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief,” and let honesty be your whole prayer if that is all you have today.

Yes, and Scripture shows it is a prayer He loves to answer. The apostles prayed, “Increase our faith” (Luke 17:5), and Jesus did not rebuke them. He taught them instead. Asking for more faith is itself an act of faith, because it admits you cannot manufacture it on your own.

Then you are in good company. Abraham doubted, David doubted, Thomas doubted, and God stayed with every one of them. Doubt is not the opposite of faith. It is often the evidence that faith is still fighting. Bring the doubt into the prayer instead of letting it keep you from praying.

Faith is not a feeling. Feelings rise and fall with sleep, weather, and circumstance. Faith is a choice to trust God’s character even when your feelings are silent. You know you have faith the same way you know you have muscles: not by how they feel at rest, but by using them when the weight gets heavy.

Yes. This is one of the deepest comforts in Scripture: “If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself” (2 Timothy 2:13). Your grip on God may weaken, but His grip on you never does. You are held by His faithfulness, not your own.

Not at all. Endurance in the Bible never meant the absence of struggle. It meant refusing to quit in the middle of it. Paul wrote of being “troubled on every side, yet not distressed” (2 Corinthians 4:8). You can be tired and still enduring, tearful and still trusting, trembling and still held.

If this prayer steadied your heart, do not stop here. Submit your prayer request and let Hannah pray with you for the strength and faith to endure. You were never meant to hold on alone.
